This is a roadside store of the eyewear brand JINS, built on the premises of a supermarket in the suburbs of Sayama, Saitama Prefecture. We designed a wooden building with a gentle gable roof.

CONCEPT

CONCEPT

An entrance approach and terrace are placed under the two-meter eaves that project to the north and south. In front of them, there are various kinds of bushes and medium-height trees such as silver tea trees and Russian olives.

The building was constructed using the conventional wooden frame construction method, taking into account construction costs and workability. The 2.35 m × 4.2 m grid is the basis of the structure, which was calculated based on the dimensions of fittings and the width of passages so that pillars do not interfere with the layout of the passages and the fittings. The displayed wooden surface of pillars, beams and sheathings is combined with floor mortar and gray wall painting, with a reddish-brown accent of the antirust coating on the metal. The large opening stretching from north to south creates a bright space with a neat, clean appearance.

The building was designed to create a simple and comfortable commercial space by maximizing  the warmth of wood, inorganic gray, transparency and other architectural elements instead of decorative treatments.
